So That the Works of God Might Be Seen In…Me?

“As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?” Jesus answered, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” John 9:1-4

Am I that blind man in whom the works of God are displayed?

God’s work of forgiveness is displayed in me. I am forgiven only because of what God did through his son. Solomon said it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense (Proverbs 19:11). God’s glory is seen in me even more so because instead of merely overlooking my sins, Jesus willingly covered them with his blood.

God’s work of love is seen in me when I forgive others as he has forgiven me. And I am immune to being offended when my sense of self is wrapped up in Jesus. “Seventy times seven” (Matthew 18:22) is representative of God’s mercy towards me and so should represent my mercy towards others as well.

God’s work of peace can be seen in me. My heart and mind can be at ease because I am justified through my faith in Jesus. There is no other who cares for me as he does since he causes all things to work together for my good (Romans 8:28). As the apostle asked, “If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31).

This man’s blindness gave God an opportunity to show his glory in him. God saving you and me in our brokenness seems the same.
